 Postdoctoral Fellowship Specializing in Therapy for Physicians

Annia Raja PhD Therapy is offering a Postdoctoral Fellowship for early-career psychologists strongly interested in working with physicians as therapy clients.

This fellowship provides advanced clinical training in physician mental health, professional identity development, and in-depth psychodynamic interventions tailored to physicians and other high-achieving professionals.

Fellows will gain hands-on experience delivering therapy in a supportive, specialized fully private pay, private practice setting tailored to serving physicians and other high achieving professionals. We are seeking applicants who are interested in providing individual, group, and/or couples therapy and psychological services in a fully telehealth private practice setting.

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Annia Raja, PhD (clinical psychologist, licensed in California and Texas). During this fellowship, you will learn how to build and maintain a private pay therapy practice, expand your therapeutic skills in conceptualization and intervention, and further develop your professional niche. You will also gain advanced knowledge, training, and experience in the unique opportunities and challenges that come with working with physicians as therapy clients.

This fellowship provides a unique opportunity to work with physicians as therapy clients, thereby gaining the knowledge and experience needed to work with high-achieving professionals more broadly.

Overview

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program

  • Proactive, self-possessed, and self-assured self-starter who has an openness to learning, growth, and feedback

  • Strong interest and/or openness to in-depth, insight-oriented, and/or psychodynamic approaches to therapy

  • Exposure to and/or strong interests in the common clinical concerns among physicians, such as:

    • Burnout, stress management, perfectionism, anxiety

    • Compassion fatigue, challenges with work-life balance, Moral injury, coping with medical complications and adverse outcomes, etc.

    • People-pleasing and boundary challenges, imposter syndrome

    • Depression and emotional numbing, grief and loss, difficulties with emotional expression

    • Maintaining resilience in high-stress careers

    • Substance use, characterological difficulties, existential concerns, loss of meaning

    • Difficult marital relations and/or family of origin backgrounds

    • Anger, irritability, frustration tolerance difficulties

  • Strong interest and/or openness to in-depth, insight-oriented, and/or psychodynamic approaches to therapy
